WHY GIVE

Studies clearly show that those without a high school diploma face financial instability and lack of economic mobility. This often leads to lower earnings, higher unemployment rates, poorer health and less happiness in adulthood and life. Our communities suffer, too. Fewer high school graduates significantly affect the Southland’s competitiveness. And they dramatically reduce opportunities to enhance the quality of life opportunities we all want for ourselves and each other.

Here's a few notable people who obtained their High School Equivalency Certificate (GED):

Peter Jennings, ABC News Anchor;  Mary Lou Retton, Medal-winning Olympic gymnast; Jim Carrey, Actor; Michael J. Fox, Actor; Richard Carmona, Former U.S. Surgeon General; George Bernard Shaw, Playwright; George Eastman, Creator of Kodak Camera Co.; Elton John, Musician; Chris Rock, Comedian;  Mark Wahlberg, Actor and Musician, Peter Jackson, Film Director; Dave Thomas, Founder Wendy's Restaurants.
